Personal Growth

Published by LifeIsAJourney.org under on 10:35 AM

In the last year I have had numerous sources stretch me in my personal growth as a leader, pastor, and disciple.  The older I get the more I realize how badly I need to constantly improve.  In the younger years it was all to easy to ignore or be ignorant of my need, but now it is impossible to overlook it.

How am I attempting to grow?  I am walking down three different avenues.  First, praying that God will change me!  I need his help for sure and want any change to be directed by him.  Second, asking for help from others who I know and respect.  Mentors, peers, and anyone else that is open to giving me some pointers.  Third, I am reading a lot more than I ever have in my life.  I have a goal of 50 books this year which would be nearly double of last year, but not as many as it should be.  I have a friend who read over 300 books last year!  Now granted he is a fast reader and a bit of a nerd, but inspiring none the less.

My guess is you need to grow as well.  Do you have a plan, a strategy, and some avenues to walk down yourself.  If you have a good one pass it on - learn and return!

Joe,
Good word for all of us! Change is good, challenges are good.
Just something for what it’s worth…I have a simple way of looking at my relationships...If I am having a problem with one person, then that could be called normal (conflicts are inevitable). But, if I notice that I am bickering with two or three different people about different topics...More than likely the problem is not them, it’s me. I believe that if we are not open to the idea of change inside us, we will grow old and lonely. But isn’t it funny how quickly we can spot problems within others?
Furthermore, I just want to say that I have taken your challenge to read more this year than the last. As I sit at my desk I can count eleven books, keep in mind some are reference books (no, not dictionaries). The last book I bought is titled "Everybody's Normal Till You Get To Know Them" By John Ortberg...This will be an interesting read (my son gave me a Barnes and Noble gift card).
Joe thanks for your dedication to stay active with this blog. I know it is a lot of work and along with all your other task, you do a fine job!
Man to Man, I love you,
Mark Grisham
