Peace Child by Don Richardson

Imagine sharing the gospel with cannibals who admire Judas' betrayal more than Jesus' sacrifice. This book tells the story of a family who traveled down to Irian Jaya to bring the message of the gospel to the headhunting Sawi tribe. It was amazing to hear them tell their story, and to see God at work through everything that happened. It was inspiring to see their joy and excitement (yes, excitement!) to actually go in with their 5 month old baby and live among a cannibalistic tribe that had never been contacted by the modern world. And by the end I was rejoicing and worshiping God in seeing these people who were once in chains meet their Savior and Redeemer.

It was affected me in many ways: It increased my faith and trust in God to see this family surrender everything they knew, including their own lives, to possibly save these unreached people from the hold of Satan and eternity in hell. It helped me to get a glimpse of God's love for those who are lost and separated from Him, and how he works to reveal Himself to people and prepare them for the message of the gospel. And most importantly it got my eyes off of myself and my trivial "worries" and onto eternity and the things that really matter, allowing me to surrender more of those places I hold onto tightly and instead count everything as loss compared to the greatness of knowing Christ. I couldn't put the book down once I started reading it, and I would challenge anyone to read it.
